GO is a great initiative by Google that can bring developers closer by offering them a multi-purpose and open-source language for all their development needs.

However, there is just a slight problem. There already exists a programming language called GO. The language GO was introduced by a programmer Francis McCabe back in 2003 and a number of articles and books have been published on it. So what will Google do now?

Well, the smart thing would be to rename their language because the biggest problem they are going to be facing is the conflict in search engine results when users search for GO. People might think that a particular line of code belongs to Google’s GO while it really belongs to McCabe’s GO.

Secondly, it would be the right and ethical thing to do. Google cannot and should not take over the name just because it has the power to do so. The issue is also being discussed heavily on GO’s page and is seeing interesting arguments from both the sides.

Now this can be made easy using an application called Trakkboard.

Trakkboard is a desktop application that has been built using Google Analytics API. It allows a user to manage multiple Google Analytics profiles from a single screen. For example, if you are mostly interested in just the unique visitors to all your websites, you can set up a view where Trakkboard pulls Unique Visitors data from all your Google Analytics profiles and show them to you in the same view.

Trakkboard will also refresh the data in all the widgets after a certain interval. You can choose from up to 15 different widgets to setup your customized report. The application is totally free and is available in English, Spanish and German languages.

Techie-Buzz Verdict:

Overall, Trakkboard is a great application that will save users a lot of time when managing multiple Google Analytics profiles. It is simple to setup and the ability to create a customized view from different profiles adds a lot of value.

When Facebook does something new, Orkut takes at least a few months to realize that they should do it as well.

Adding to that list is Orkut’s recent announcement of a redesign. They claim that the new design will have:

  • Fewer pages and hence a faster browsing experience.
  • A clean and simple interface.
  • Greater personalization by choosing a color theme.
  • Larger pictures and targeted friend suggestions.

The list hardly contains anything that we have not already seen at Facebook. The new interface seems to be better but can it save Orkut from further losing its market share to Facebook, MySpace and Bebo? I think we’ll find that out pretty soon. As of now, the version of Orkut is invitation only which means that only a friend who is using the new version can invite you to it.

Now you can compress all your Google Docs files in a single zip file and download to your hard drive.

The feature may not be available for all the users yet as Google is rolling it out slowly. To do so, simply select all your files and click on the More Actions button. This will allow you to select the export option from the list and export all the files as a zip file.

However, Google isn’t planning on competing with iTunes (or other online Music stores) and its Music service will be very different.

Google won’t be selling downloads or offering subscriptions. Instead it will integrate free streams into search results for music related queries. It is also expected to provide additional relevant information like cover art and snippet about artists and albums. Basically, Google is planning on beefing up the One Box for music to include everything a user searching for music may need. For example, if you search for Linking Park, Google will not only display a snippet about Linkin Park but will also allow you to listen to songs by Linkin Park. It’s not yet clear, if Google will be providing full length songs or only previews. However Google has reportedly partnered with web-based music services like iLike and Lala for sourcing its content. All the major music labels are also expected to be on board.

Google has been tinkering vigorously with their search engine over the past year in its quest to stay ahead of the competition. Integrating streaming music previews is a logical next step for Google which should help in winning over the sizable population of music lovers.

Google has launched a new plug-in for Google Earth called Google Building maker. With this new tool released by Google, you can create your own buildings and submit them to the Google team. Google team reviews them and  your building will be published on Google Earth.

Building Maker is a 3D modeling tool for adding buildings to Google Earth. It is easy and fun to use the tool. Here is how it works,

  • You should select a city from around the world.
  • Google provides you some photos. You have to start creating buildings with those.
  • After completing, save it and Google will review it.
  • That’s it! Your building is on Google Earth! Simple, isn’t it?

Details On Resources That Google Gives For Creating Buildings

Basically, Google gives you some well designed 3D models and aerial view photos of some buildings. You need to use these resources to create new buildings. Google will be introducing about 50 cities at the beginning and will later go on increasing the number.

Models you create will be saved live in the Google 3D Warehouse, an online repository for 3D models

Very recently, PC World, a popular tech magazine told that there might be chances of getting Google Chrome OS, built-in with Loongson laptops from China. Shanzai.com, a Chinese hardware blog said that there are chances of getting Google Chrome OS based devices in the mid-October or so.

However, Google has not reacted for any of these rumors. So, let us just wait and watch what happens and be glued to the updates.

Fast Flip is an interesting concept. Initially google has signed up with three dozen top publishers, including the New York Times, the Atlantic, the Washington Post, Salon, Fast Company, ProPublica and Newsweek. Fast Flip displays partial screen grabs of each news instead of a textual excerpt. This has its own advantages and disadvantages. One one hand this allows the reader to get the gist of the story without reading the full story and may result in lost page-views for the publishers. On the other hand the visual presentation provides news publishers with more opportunities to attract readers. Google Fast Flip is also an unique opportunity for news publishers as this is the first time that Google is going to share revenues with the publishers.

As far as users are concerned, I think it has some potential. It allows you to get a glimpse of the article and gives you a better idea about its content.
