The starter edition of Office 2010 includes Microsoft Word Starter Edition and Microsoft Excel starter edition, which do not have all the features of the regular Word and Excel. However, the starter edition will be enough for your day to day use of dealing with documents.

Why is Microsoft giving the Office 2010 starter edition free? Like we told you in the beginning this is not much of a free version and is instead an adware, so you can expect to see ads pop up while editing your documents or creating spreadsheets.

Some recent introductions in Google Search labs include:

• Social search: Allows you to find results from your social contacts in search results.
• Keyboard shortcuts: Allows you to browse the results using your keyboard.
• Accessible View: Allows you to navigate search results quickly and easily.

In addition to that, Search Engine Land is reporting that Google is also playing around with a new sidebar which will make the search results more jazzier.

From the looks of it, it definitely looks more jazzier, however, it is also more useful as the sidebar sports links to narrow the search down to particular segments like images, news, books, maps and so on.

In addition to that, the search also provides related suggestions under the “See also” category. This can come in pretty handy when users are trying to use Google to search for travel destinations since they have more similar options to search from.

Overall the new interface is pretty exciting and it will be good to see it being rolled out soon. One thing is for sure, search is the bread and butter for Google and they will never be buoyed down by competition. And any innovation is always good for consumers like us, may it be new features or new competition, it is a win win situation.

Today we are open-sourcing the project as Chromium OS. We are doing this early, a year before Google Chrome OS will be ready for users, because we are eager to engage with partners, the open source community and developers. As with the Google Chrome browser, development will be done in the open from this point on. This means the code is free, accessible to anyone and open for contributions. The Chromium OS project includes our current code base, user interface experiments and some initial designs for ongoing development. This is the initial sketch and we will color it in over the course of the next year.

This is not the actual OS that Chrome will be releasing. Chrome OS is slated for launch on netbooks sometime next year, however with open sourcing the code, Google is hoping for more developers and partners to dive into the code and make it better.

Considering that the code is now open source you might as well see some Chrome OS flavors coming out in near future. This is again a big problem considering the number of flavors of Linux available today. Many may call that choices, but it clearly an indication that the community wants to build and promote their own versions rather than having a unified goal.

Chrome OS is basically built around a web browser just like Google Chrome. According to a video by Google, which you can view below, Chrome OS is all about living in the cloud using a web browser. The video also rants about how long it takes for a traditional OS to load, and according to some reports Chrome OS boots in as low as 7 seconds, which is good considering that Windows 7 takes anywhere between 12-15 seconds.

However, it is too early to start comparing Chrome OS with and other OS leave aside Windows 7. Only time will tell how good Chrome OS is and whether its launch will help Google dominate a user’s desktop, at-least on Netbooks.

This version of Office 2010 includes Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Excel, OneNote, Access, InfoPath, Sharepoint, Publisher and Access. In addition to that Project 2010 and Visio 2010 are available as separate downloads.
