Today Firefox is the preferred browser for the millions of “informed” netizens. What makes it to be the most popular among them is the availability of Firefox Extensions developed by third parties, which integrate seamlessly with your Firefox to personalize it as per your needs and requirements.

1 One such Firefox Extension is FEBE (Firefox Environment Backup Extension), which allows you to backup your complete Firefox Profile, including all of your Firefox extensions, themes, and (optionally) your bookmarks, preferences, passwords, cookies and just about everything else Firefox offers.

There are many such utilities, which allows you to backup and restore your firefox profile. But most of them do that on the same PC. FEBE goes beyond just backing up. It actually rebuild your extensions individually into installable .xpi files and then makes a backup. What this means is that you can take this backup on a Flash Drive, take it to an other PC, and restore their. Your Firefox Profile on first PC will get duplicated onto the second PC. Thus you can easily synchronize your office and home browsers.

Version 5.0 allows for user-defined backups. Single files or entire directories can be specified to back up data for programs like Thunderbird, Greasemonkey, etc.

Backups can be performed on demand or scheduled for daily, weekly, or monthly unattended runs.

The utility is easily customizable and the interface is clean. It allows you to backup as little or as much of your Firefox environment as you wish.  You can even schedule your backups on a daily, weekly, or monthly basis.  Sequential backups can be stored in timestamped directories so you can restore back as far as you like. WHat’s more, you may specify “User-defined” items to have FEBE backup Thunderbird, Greasemonkey scripts, or virtually any data on your computer – Firefox related or not.

Recently a BETA version of FEBE has been released for Firefox 3. The stable version of FEBE is currently availalble only for Firefox 2.0 – 3.0b2.
