Goo.gl Lite: A Firefox Add-on to Create Short URL’s with Goo.gl
By on December 20th, 2009

The Google short URL’s are out and we have been covering some of the news about them recently. Goo.gl is a URL shortener from Google that lets you create short URL’s from the Google Toolbar and also lets you update your Twitter stream from Feedburner.

Now if you do not like using the Google Toolbar, here is a nifty little Firefox add-on for shortening URL’s with Goo.gl.

Install the add-on and restart Firefox. Go to Toolbars and select “Customize”. After that, drag and drop the URL shortener button in your bookmarks Toolbar.

This adds a small button in your bookmarks toolbar. Hit the button and it creates a short URL with Goo.gl and copies the shortened URL into Windows clipboard. This is a simple solution and you do not even need to use Google Toolbar.

If you want to use Google URL shortener in other browsers like Safari, Google Chrome or Opera go for this bookmarklet.

Techie-Buzz Verdict

The Goo.gl Firefox add-on is the best way to create short URL’s without using Google toolbar. Works perfectly with the latest Firefox versions (3.0-3.5).
