Last year, AT&T launched the powerful HTC Aria smartphone. This handset originally runs on the Android 2.1 (Eclair) OS. Finally after waiting for months, HTC Aria users has a reason to cheer. AT&T recently released the much awaited Android 2.2 FroYo update for the HTC Aria smartphone. It is the second Android powered device to get the Android 2.2 FroYo update on the AT&T’s network.
The Android 2.2 update will allow HTC Aria users to access more than 150,000 apps from the Android Market and the ability to load apps on the MicroSD card. Last year, Tata Docomo, Reliance Communications and Airtel launched their 3G services in India. Recently, Aircel joined the bandwagon and launched its 3G services in Chennai, Karnataka, UP East, Bihar and Kolkata circle. And now, Vodafone is expected to launch their 3G services by the end of Q1 of 2011. Back in October, Vodafone has already announced Nokia Siemens Networks and Ericsson India as partners for its 3G network across India.
Vodafone had grabbed 3G license for 9 circles Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Chennai & Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra & Goa, Gujarat, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh (East) and West Bengal. Vodafone will roll-out 3G Mobile and Data services in a phased manner by the end of March.
We have a 3G-ready network, currently in optimisation which we will be launching very quickly. Our approach is to give our customers a world class experience, we will launch 3G service a city-wise basis and not pan-India or circle-wise. Presently, trials of 3G service are on and the service is expected to be launched in a phased manner by Marchsaid Naveen Chopra, Vodafone Essar Director (Enterprise and Carrier Business).

Sprint recently announced its first Windows Phone 7 powered smartphone, the HTC Arrive. This handset comes with a tilt-up display and a slide-out QWERTY keyboard. Aircel recently launched its 3G services in Chennai, Karnataka, UP East and Kolkata circle. Back in 2009, Nokia launched the Ovi Store, which allows you to download and access free apps as well as paid apps on the Nokia smartphones. While it was not possible in India to purchase apps via operator billing, most of the American and European countries already has the operator billing service. This service lets you download paid apps from the Ovi Store and the amount is deducted from your pre-paid account or charged in your postpaid account.
Finally, after waiting for more than a year, Nokia launched the operator billing service for its Ovi Store in partnership with Reliance Communications in India. Now, Nokia users can easily pay for the paid apps from their Reliance number. If you are a prepaid Reliance users, then the amount will be deducted from your pre-paid account. If you are a postpaid users, then the amount will be reflected in the monthly mobile phone bill.
Commenting on this alliance, Prashant Gokarn 3G Head, Reliance Communications, said, Nokia and RCOM relationship brings exclusive apps through Ovi Store coupled with a convenient purchase process. This service will usher in significant growth in adoption and usage of apps in India. This service is a big step in a series of innovation led products from RCOM.
V Ramnath, Director Operator Channels, Nokia India, said, Our partnership with Reliance Communications is a big step towards providing Indian consumers easy and simplified access to Ovi Store content through operator billing.
