Alcatel One Touch Idol And Idol Ultra Smartphones Announced

Alcatel is popularly know for manufacturing cheap and entry-level smartphones. Today, the company surprised everyone with the launch of Alcatel One Touch Idol and One Touch Idol Ultra smartphones at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) 2013 in Las Vegas. The Alcatel One Touch Idol Ultra is touted to be the world’s thinnest smartphone with just 6.45 millimeters thickness. This device breaks current market records of Vivo X1 which measures 6.55 mm thick.

“The One Touch Idol device series represents a breakthrough in technology. We’ve pushed the barriers on design, resulting in devices that offer the perfect balance between ultra-slim form factor, large display, outstanding performance, and rich user experience, while keeping the devices affordably priced to consumers.”

Alcatel One Touch Idol Ultra features a 4.7-inch HD AMOLED display, sporting a resolution of 1280 x 720 pixels, 1.2 GHz dual-core processor, Android 4.1 (Jelly Bean) OS, 8 megapixel rear-facing camera with full HD (1080p) video recording, 1.3 megapixel front-facing camera, 1 GB RAM and much more.

On the other hand, Alcatel One Touch Idol is touted to be the lightest smartphone in its category. It comes with a 4.7 inch IPS display, 1.2 GHz dual-core processor, Android 4.1 Jelly Bean, 8 megapixel rear-facing camera, 2 megapixel front facing camera, 3G Connectivity, 32 GB expandable memory and so on.

Alcatel One Touch Idol and Idol Ultra will go on sale starting this month in China. Alcatel One Touch Idol Ultra comes with a price tag of 2,799 RMB (approx. $450). The price of One Touch Idol will be announced soon. These smartphones are not expected to arrive in the European and American markets anytime soon.

AT&T Unveils Pantech Discover; 4.8 Inch HD Display, 12.6 MP Camera For $50

AT&T recently announced the powerful Pantech Discover smartphone. It is the first AT&T smartphone pre-loaded with the AT&T DriveMode, an app designed to help prevent texting while driving. This powerful yet affordable device packs a 4.8 inch HD display, 1.5 GHz dual-core processor, 4G LTE and a 12.6 megapixel camera for just $50 on contract.

Pantech Discover will be shipped with the Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich) Operating System, however the device will be upgraded to the Android 4.1 Jelly Bean soon after the launch. The pre-loaded AT&T DriveMode app can be extremely useful while driving. The app can be set-up to automatically send a customizable reply to incoming messages once a vehicle starts moving at a speed of more than 25 mph.

Pantech Discover features a 4.8 inch HD display, sporting a resolution of 1280 x 720 pixels, 1.5 GHz dual-core Qualcomm MSM8960 Snapdragon S4 Pro, Android 4.0 OS, 12.6 megapixel rear camera with 4X zoom, full HD (1080p) video recording and playback, Near Field Communication (NFC), 4G LTE Connectivity, 16 GB internal memory, MicroSD card slot, 32 GB expandable memory and a 2100 mAh battery.

Pantech Discover comes with full VPN and EAS support, plus device encryption for secure access to corporate email and intranets. This handset will so on sale from January 11 in the US. Pantech Discover can be purchased for just $49.99 with a two year service agreement.

Samsung Rolling Out Android 4.1.2 Update For Galaxy S Advance

Last year, Samsung announced the mid-range Galaxy S Advance smartphone. It comes with a 4 inch Super AMOLED display, 1 GHz dual-core processor, 5 megapixel auto-focus camera with LED flash, 8 GB internal memory, 768 MB RAM, Bluetooth 3.0 and more. Sadly, this handset was shipped with the ageing Android 2.3 (Gingerbread) Operating System.

Back in October, Samsung Bulgaria announced that Galaxy S Advance won’t get the Android 4.0 update. Instead, the company will directly roll out the Android 4.1 (Jelly Bean) update to this device. As promised, Samsung has finally started rolling out the Jelly Bean update for the Galaxy S Advance users. Currently this update is available only for the folks living in Russia.

The latest update bumps the Galaxy S Advance from Android 2.3.4 to Android 4.1.2. It brings the new Samsung TouchWiz Nature UI along with the usual Jelly Bean enhancements, including the smart keyboard, improved voice search, enhanced notifications, improved S Voice, Google Now, new Photo Effect Filters, improved voice and data connectivity and much more.

The latest update can be easily downloaded via Over-The-Air (OTA). You can also manually connect the Galaxy S Advance to your computer and update the device using Samsung’s KIES software. Samsung S Advance users in other countries might have to wait untill March to get this update.

Samsung Galaxy R Finally Gets The Android 4.0 Update In India

Back in 2011, Samsung launched the mid-range Galaxy R smartphone with a 4.2 inch display, 1 GHz dual-core processor, 5 megapixel camera with HD (720p) video recording, 1 GB RAM, 8 GB internal memory and much more. This handset was shipped with the out-dated Android 2.3 (Gingerbread) Operating System.

Samsung has already started rolling out the Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich) update for this device in most parts of the world. However, the Galaxy R users in India were left behind. After waiting for more than 14 months from its official launch, Samsung finally released the much-awaited Android 4.0 update for the Galaxy R users in India.

The size of the update is 239 MB and it brings the usual Ice Cream Sandwich goodies including Face Recognition (Face Unlock), Android Beam, mobile data management, performance and stability improvements, updated UI, applications multitasking, better speech recognition, usability improvements, updated Google apps and more.

This update is currently available via Over-The-Air (OTA). You will be automatically notified when the update is available for your device. LG Optimus 2X Gets The Android 4.0 ICS Update In India

LG Optimus 2X is the world’s first dual-core smartphone. This handset was launched during early-2011 in India with a price tag of Rs.30,000. After few months of its launch, the price was dropped to just Rs.19,999. The LG Optimus 2X was originally shipped with the old Android 2.2 (Froyo) Operating System. Toshiba is not known for rolling out updates in a timely manner. However, it seems that the company is on a roll. After releasing the Android 4.1 (Jelly Bean) update for the Excite 7.7 tablet, the manufacturer has also started rolling out the Jelly Bean update for its 10 inch Excite 10 tablet.

This tablet was originally shipped with the Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich) Operating System. It comes with a 10.1 inch capacitive touchscreen display, 1.5 GHz NVIDIA Tegra 3 quad-core processor, 5 megapixel rear camera with LED flash, 2 megapixel front-facing camera for video calls, 32 GB internal memory, 1 GB RAM and much more. According to the reports, this update will be first rolled out in the US, followed by other regions of the world.

US Cellular Rolls Out Multi-Window Update For Galaxy Note II

Verizon was the only carrier in the US which shipped Galaxy Note II with the multi-window feature out-of-the-box. Other major carriers such as Sprint and AT&T recently started rolling out this update. Now, US Cellular finally joined the bandwagon and rolled out the multi-window update for the Galaxy Note II owners.

The latest update is numbered R950VXALL1 and it bumps the Galaxy Note II to Android 4.1.2 (Jelly Bean).
