Sony Ericsson promised earlier that the update to Android 2.1 for Xperia family will release in Q4 2010. This didn’t went down well with the X10 owners. Finally, Sony Ericsson decided to roll out the update before end of September this year.
Sony Ericsson UK via their twitter account confirmed this news. Sony Ericsson for rolling out the Android 2.1 update in September, decided to delay the Mediascape and Timescape update for Q4 2010. This was a good decision by them because both these applications are missing common must have features, few X10 users actually use them.
Finally, for those who own a X10, you don’t have to wait longer for Android 2.1 to come on your device.
After a long time a new Windows Phone is launched, this time it is Sony Ericsson with their new Aspen. Sony Ericsson Aspen was announced a long time ago but it is finally available in the Indian market.
Sony Ericsson Aspen is a Windows Phone and runs Microsoft Windows Mobile 6.5.3 Professional. It has a 2.4 inch resistive touchscreen of QVGA resolution with 65k color support. It also has a QWERTY keyboard. A 3.5mm audio slot is also present. The Xperia panels, just like in X1 and X2 is also present.
The internal memory in Aspen is of 100MB and the external microSD is expandable up to 16GB. It also has 256MB RAM and 256MB ROM. Both 2G and 3G connectivity is supported. Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g is also present. Bluetooth 2.1 with A2DP support is also available.
The camera is of 3.15MP resolution but lacks flash. Video is recorded in VGA resolution at 15fps. It has no secondary camera. Stereo FM Radio with RDS support is also present. GPS with aGPS support is available.
Sony Ericsson Aspen will be available in Iconic Black and White Silver colors. Sony Ericsson Aspen is available in Indian market (Kolkata confirmed) and it will cost Rs.15500 (approx).
Sony Ericsson’s latest Walkman phone, Zylo is now available in India. Zylo is the first phone from Sony Ericsson to support FLAC audio format. Sony Ericsson Zylo has the latest Walkman 4.0 player.
Zylo has a 2.6 inch TFT screen of QVGA resolution with 256k color support. The internal memory in Zylo is of 260MB and the external microSD slot is expandable up to 16GB. Zylo supports both 2G and 3G connectivity.
The Bluetooth 2.1 is present on Zylo with A2DP support. The camera is of 3.15MP resolution but lacks flash. The video is recorded in VGA resolution at 24fps. There is no secondary camera on Zylo. Stereo FM radio with RDS support is also present. Being a low budget phone, GPS and Wi-Fi support is lacking in Zylo.
Sony Ericsson Zylo is available in Jazz Black, Chacha Silver and Swing Pink colors. Zylo is available in Indian market (Kolkata confirmed)and it will cost Rs.8500 (approx).
Dragon Age Origins from Bioware was one heck of a super duper RPG. It was crowned as one of the best RPGs till now. Personally, I found it so exciting that I completed that game 10 times. As a Dragon Age fan, I was badly waiting for a glimpse of the upcoming Dragon Age 2. Finally, Bioware has released a cinematic trailer of Dragon Age 2.

T-Mobile at their website announced a new Android powered handset, G2. The “big” thing in this handset is that it will support HSPA+ connectivity and will become T-Mobile’s first 4G capable handset.
According to Engadget, it will be manufactured by HTC and will be released in the month of September. The rumors suggest that HTC myTouch HD is the mobile which T-Mobile will present. We don’t have much information of the device at his moment but more details will be out soon.
Nokia announced their first touch and type phone. A phone which has both, touchscreen and a regular alphanumeric keypad. The X3-02 will have a 2.4 inch TFT resistive touchscreen of QVGA resolution with 256k color support.
The X3-02 will also be the first S40 device to sport a touchscreen. It will have a 3.5mm audio slot and a dedicated music button. The external microSD will be expandable up to 16GB.
The X3-02 will have 2G and 3G connectivity. Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n will be present. The Bluetooth version is 2.1 with A2DP support. The camera is of 5MP resolution with fixed focus but it will lack flash. Video will also be recorded but the resolution is still unknown. We predict the video recording resolution to be QVGA.
The X3-02 will be available in White Silver, Dark Metal, Petrol Blue, Pink and Lilac colors. The X3-02 will release at the end of Q3 2010 and the price is expected to be around EUR 130.
Qualcomm will start shipping the fastest Snapdragon processor by Q4 2010. Qualcomm CDMA Technologies’ Mark Frankel, Vice President of product management said that the company will start shipping the dual-core QSD8672 chip by Q4. The dual-core QSD8672 chip has clock speed of 1.5GHz.
Mark Frankel said that this chip will be used in smartphones, tablets and net books. Devices with this CPU inside will be available in early 2011. He also added that aggressive vendors can release devices “by Christmas” this year.
The new QSD8672 chip is a follow up of the previous dual core MSM8660 chip which has a clock speed of 1.2GHz. The QSD8672 chip is based on ARM design and will be made using the 45nm fabrication process. It will also have a 1080p video playback support. It will also have integrated HDMI support, DDR2 and DDR3 memory support.
The company said that this new chip will be power efficient. A new feature which this chip will possess is called individual voltage scaling. By this feature the dual core chip can keep one core idle while the other running at full speed, thus saving power.

The European Imaging And Sound Association (EISA) 2010-2011 Awards has been announced. The brands who bagged the prestigious awards are Samsung, Apple and Sony Ericsson. Samsung got two awards, European Smartphone Award for Samsung I9000 Galaxy S and European Social Media Phone Award for Samsung Wave.
Samsung I9000 Galaxy S has been one of the most powerful Android device till now in the market and the award is well justified. Same goes with Samsung Wave GT-S8500, the perfect all round capabilities with good social network integration makes it the best social media phone.
Apple won the European Tablet Award for the iPad. The EISA said, “This revolutionary new product marks the beginning of a new era for publishing.”
Garmin Nuvi 3790t won the European Portable Navigation Award. Beyerdynamic T 50 p won the European Headphones Award.
The biggie of the night, European Mobile Phone Award was won by Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 mini. The five strong points which made X10 mini take away the award are, Smart and stylish; Android platform; Built-in GPS; Female friendly appearance and Small & Touch.
The European Green Mobile Phone Award was won by LG GD510.
Few days ago, the Android 2.2 update for Motorola Droid was rolled out by Verizon. The users complained that Adobe Flash 10.1 and few other stuffs were missing. Now, Verizon will be releasing another update which will enable Droid users to download and install Adobe Flash 10.1 from Android marketplace. Adobe Flash 10.1 will be available by late summer.
Earlier, Verizon said that Wi-Fi tethering will not be featuring in Droid because the hardware doesn’t support it. Unfortunately, even though Android 2.2 supports this feature it will remain absent on Motorola Droid (by official means). Engadget reported that the hardware incapability is reported by Verizon not Motorola.
Motorola Droid, which was once doubtful to even get Android 2.2 update is slowly getting all the fun like the other high-end Android devices.
HTC will be hosting an event in London on 15th September, where they will be announcing their upcoming phones. Interestingly, this date coincides with the Nokia World date of 14-15 September in London.
Talking about HTC, the phones which are expected to be officially announced on the event are HTC Desire HD (Ace) and HTC Desire Z (Vision). The HTC desire HD is rumored to have a 4.3 inch WVGA AMOLED screen (maybe S-LCD). The internal memory is expected to be 4GB and the external microSD will be expandable up to 32GB. Desire HD will be having a 8MP camera with dual LED flash and 720P video recording. It will come with Android 2.2. out-of-the-box and will have Qualcomm 1GHz processor.
The HTC Vision will have a smaller 3.7 inch WVGA TFT screen and physical QWERTY keyboard. The internal memory is rumored to be 1.2GB and the external will be expandable up to 32GB. The camera resolution is still unknown. It will come with Android 2.1 and 1GHz processor.
These are just two phones from HTC which are running hot in rumor mill. We can hope to see more than these two devices from HTC in the event. So stay tuned for HTC’s “Dream”.
