Last month, it was reported that Ashton Kutcher was going to play Steve Jobs in the upcoming indie film “Jobs”. Now TMZ.com has published photos of Kutcher in “full character”.
Kutcher appears to be wearing Steve Jobs’s iconic black turtleneck, jeans, and sneakers outfit on his way to the set of the independent film about Apple’s co-founder.
Apparently, Steve Jobs loved the black turtleneck so much that he reportedly owned hundreds of them. Last October, Mona Simpson, Jobs’s sister, revealed at his memorial service that he had probably owned enough copies of the shirt for everyone in attendance.
Hulme suggested in April that he is planning to release the film in the fourth quarter of 2012.
Earlier this month, we reported that settlement talks between Apple and Samsung over patent issues are scheduled between May 21 – 22. Today, Network World revealed that Apple has accused Samsung of destroying evidence in the patent suit. Apple has asked the judge to instruct the jury that Samsung had a duty to preserve evidence relevant to the ongoing case, yet failed to do so.
The filing states that Samsung destroyed “vast quantities of relevant evidence in blatant disregard of its duty to preserve all such evidence.” Samsung’s company policy of automatically deleting e-mails from custodian computers every two weeks, even if the company is required to keep e-mail evidence relevant to an ongoing case is the main issue here.
Apple cited an e-mail from the head of Samsung’s product strategy team, Won Pyo Hong, in which “side-by-side comparisons of Apple and Samsung products” were ordered for design presentations.
“Apple and the Court cannot possibly know how many more emails Dr. Hong sent or received that would have supported Apple’s claims that Samsung copied Apple products had they not been deleted,” the filing reads. “The same is true for many of the other Samsung witnesses who only produced a handful of emails, or none at all.”
Just yesterday, Apple released OS X Lion 10.7.4 the fourth maintenance update for OS X Lion. Today, Apple has released a new update for the generation 2 and 3 Apple TV models.
This update brings the ability for movies and TV show previews from the iTunes Store to be viewed in HD and fixes a few other minor bugs.

AirPlay – Fixes an issue that caused some iOS apps to have trouble connecting via AirPlay.

Stability and performance – Includes fixes for issues affecting stability and performance.
Users can update the Apple TV by going to the Settings menu, then General, then selecting Update Software.
Today, Apple has released OS X Lion 10.7.4, the fourth maintenance update for OS X Lion. The update is available via Software Update and Apple’s download pages.
The 10.7.4 update is recommended for all OS X Lion users and includes general operating system fixes that improve the stability, compatibility, and security of your Mac including fixes that:
– Resolve an issue where the “Reopen windows when logging back in” setting is always enabled
– Improve compatibility with certain British third-party USB keyboards
– Address an issue that may prevent files from being saved to a server
– Improve the reliability of copying files to an SMB server

An issue existed in the handling of network account logins. The login process recorded sensitive information in the system log, where other users of the system could read it. The sensitive information may persist in saved logs after installation of this update. See http://support.apple.com/kb/TS4272 for more information about how to securely remove any remaining records. This issue only affects systems running OS X Lion v10.7.3 with users of Legacy File Vault and/or networked home directories.

The company also has released a Safari 5.1.7 update containing several improvements including disabling out-of-date versions of Adobe Flash Player for security reasons.
Last week, we reported that Apple’s new retail chief, John Browett, had received $61M in stock rights. Browett received a total of 100,000 restricted stock units (RSUs) and at Apple’s current stock price, those RSUs are worth around $61 million. Then we reported that John Browett has been added to Apple’s leadership page.
Today, the new head of retail has sent an email introducing himself to Apple Retail employees in an email obtained by IFO Apple Store.
At last I’ve officially started at Apple, and it’s great to be here. I’ve had the chance to meet many of you at stores in the U.S. and across Europe, and one of my top priorities for the coming months is to meet many more people on our team around the world.
It’s incredibly impressive to be on the inside of Apple Retail. Many of my friends, relatives, and former colleagues have written to tell me how lucky I am to be working with such a great group of people, and I couldn’t agree more. While our stores are fantastic and our products are amazing, it really is our people who make the difference in creating the best retail experience.

The number of industries iPhone and iPad are disrupting at a rapid rate is incredible! Today, the New York Times reveals that Amtrak, the government-owed American passenger railroad company, has chosen to use the iPhone as a ticket scanner for its 1,700 conductors.
iPhones will be equipped with a barcode scanner in a case similar to the Linea Pro cases that Apple uses at its retail stores for its point of sales system. The phones will be able to scan barcodes on paper tickets, as well as digital barcodes on smartphones.
The article also points out that Amtrak’s ticketing system was long overdue for an upgrade. Before the adoption of iPhones, the prior ticketing system involved punching a hole in a paper ticket and physically transporting those tickets to a central location where the information was entered in a database. Wow, that sounds ancient.
Amtrak also has an iPhone app that allows riders to book tickets, check train status and schedules, and more. The app is available for free via the App Store.
Today, Apple has released iOS 5.1.1 for iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch users. The update offers bug fixes and improvements for HDR, AirPlay, and Safari syncing. iOS 5.1.1 is available for the iPhone 4S, iPhone 4 and iPhone 3GS, third- and fourth-generation iPod touch, and all iPad models.
iOS device users can download the update through iTunes, or access the delta update directly on their iOS device through the Settings application. Go to Settings.app -> General -> Software update. The build number for the update is 9B206.
The full list of changes in iOS 5.1.1, as noted by Apple, are:
- Improves reliability of using HDR option for photos taken using the Lock Screen shortcut
- Addresses bugs that could prevent the new iPad from switching between 2G and 3G networks
- Fixes bugs that affected AirPlay video playback in some circumstances
- Improved reliability for syncing Safari bookmarks and Reading List
- Fixes an issue where ‘Unable to purchase’ alert could be displayed after successful purchase

Just a few days ago, we reported that the iPad’s market share had soared to 68% as Kindle Fire shipments decreased. You know, the “iPad killer”. Now, a new study claims that the total number of users on three generations of the iPad account for over 95 of all tablet-based internet traffic.
Research firm Chitika Insights revealed that after going through its database of ad impressions, it found that 94.64 percent of all tablet web traffic can be attributed to the iPad.
In second place came Samsung’s Galaxy Tab which only managed to grab 1.22 percent of the market, while the Asus Transformer Prime eked out 1.2 percent. When compared to the iPad’s web traffic share, that’s literally nothing. The top six vendors were Motorola’s Xoom, RIM’s Playbook and Amazon’s Kindle Fire. In last place was Barnes and Noble’s Nook which took 0.54 percent of the market.
But Android is….oh, never mind!
Last month, we reported that Google had used code that allowed the company to bypass the standard Safari privacy settings, which allowed them to insert advertising cookies on an affected device. It was also reported that a Safari user had sued Google over the claimed privacy violation.
In fact, Google denied that by saying “The Journal mischaracterizes what happened and why. We used known Safari functionality to provide features that signed-in Google users had enabled. It’s important to stress that these advertising cookies do not collect personal information.” Clearly not the case.
Now, Bloomberg reports that the U.S. Federal Trade Commission (FTC) is getting ready to fine Google over its efforts to bypass privacy settings in Safari for iOS to track users through ads on sites across the web. According to the source, the fine is likely to be tens of millions of dollars.
Google Inc. (GOOG) is negotiating with the U.S. Federal Trade Commission over how big a fine it will have to pay for its breach of Apple Inc. (AAPL)’s Safari Internet browser, a person familiar with the matter said. […]
The fine would be the first by the FTC for a violation of Internet privacy safeguards as the agency steps up enforcement of the Web.

You know that so called “iPad killer”? Well, it isn’t doing well at all after all. Today, research firm IDC has released its data on worldwide tablet shipments for the first quarter of 2012. It reveals that even thought there was a quarterly drop in iPad shipments of over 20%, Apple’s share of the tablet market soared from last quarter’s 54.7%.
The significant increase came from the expense of Android tablets. This expense came from Amazon’s Kindle Fire which has seen its shipments collapse from 4.8 million units in the fourth quarter of 2011 to less than 750,000 units last quarter. Ouch! “iPad killer” indeed. It should also be noted that Amazon has never revealed the exact number sold during Amazon’s conference calls.
However, Amazon has taken second place in the tablet market during the fourth quarter with a 16.8% share of the market as the Kindle Fire debuted in the United States. Even though IDC did not report a number for Amazon’s first quarter shipments in its press release, it did say that Amazon’s share dropped to “just over 4%” in the total tablet market of 17.4 million units, yielding shipment volume of roughly 700,000-750,000 units for Amazon.
