India based Infosys Technologies has bagged a deal with IT giant Microsoft which involves Infosys providing it’s services to Microsoft’s Internal IT Management in over 104 countries. This includes Infosys looking after Microsoft’s global internal IT services like helpdesk, desk-side services, IT infrastructure and applications support.
This deal will not only help Infosys to expand it’s operations but it would also provide Infosys an unique opportunity to partner with the IT division of Microsoft and gain the much required technical and more importantly early expertise in the implementation and management of the latest Microsoft technologies and ultimately enhance Infosys’s capabilities of helping it’s other customers to leverage Microsoft’s innovation and adopt these technologies.
Although the official value of the deal has not been disclosed yet but some analysts believe that the deal can be easily worth over 100 million dollars. Infosys has initial plans of running Microsoft’s in-house services for applications, devices and databases in 450 locations. Infosys has also tied up with Unisys to provide global desk-side support and service desk services.

On the eve of the Bengali New Year, Vodafone has launched a plethora of Value Added Services for it’s Bengali subscribers to help them celebrate the Bengali New Year in a much better way. Here is a list of the Value Added Services:
- A Voice Portal – Poila Baisakh’ which is a mash-up of various utility services such as customised bengali caller tunes, ring tones, recipes of popular Bengali cuisines, mobile greetings, song dedications and trivia around the Bengali New Year. These services can be accessed by dialing <567450> and the call is chargeable at Rs 6 per minute.
- A WAP Portal for animated wall papers based on the theme of the Bengali New Year. The wallpapers can be downloaded from a link which the customers can get via SMS from Vodafone after sending a text-message: <Poila> to <111> toll free from GPRS enabled phones
- Vodafone has also made available personalized picture messages on the same theme and can be sent by Vodafone customers to their friends and loved ones by messaging <PB name of the subscriber> to 53636. This SMS will be charged at Rs 3 per SMS.

Songs are available in various categories such as Bhajans, Ghazals, New Age, current and more external hits. Customers will be charged Re.1 Per song download. But only 5 songs can be downloaded on one day. All your customisations will be saved on the Vodafone Live website for you to download later.
This service can be accessed by sending an SMS message LIVE to 111. The catch is this service is currently available to only the prepaid and postpaid subscribers of Mumbai however we may expect this service to be launched in other cities soon.

The World Telecom Development Conference is held every four years to discus latest trends in the Telecom industry, New technologies and development of telecommunication in all countries throughout the world. This confernece is hosted by the Telecom arm of United Nations – The International Telecommunication Union (ITU).
ITU has declared that the fourth edition of the World Telecommunication Development Conference would be held this year in the International Convention Centre at Hyderabad from May 24 to June 4, 2010. This year, development priorities in view of the deep digital divide created by the rapid but uneven expansion of information and communication technologies will be discussed and finalised. Emphasis will also be laid on promoting international cooperation and partnerships to help strengthen telecommunications infrastructure and institutions in developing countries. The third edition of this conference was held in Doha in 2006 which saw about 1,200 participants from over 191 countries.
Wipro Tech has entered into a strategic deal with Philips to provide Blu-Ray solutions in the Indian Market. According to the exact specifications of the deal, Wipro Tech can now offer Blu-ray middleware and solution development services related to the new Blu-ray technology all developed by Philips.
Blu-Ray aka BD or The Blu-Ray disc is an optical storage medium aimed at storing high definition content like hi-def videos and games and can store upto 25GB and 50GB of content on single and double layered optical discs respectively. This technology had initially faced some competition from the HD-DVD standard but the competition is now over with major movie distribution houses switching to Blu-Ray for content delivery.
According to the director of Philips Intellectual Property and Standards – Mr. Frederic Guillanneauf Philips is the pioneer of the Blu-Ray technology and is strongly committed towards the wholesome development of the Blu-Ray technology. He feels that the tie-up with Wipro will actually fuel the development of this technology to a further level. Wipro being a major supplier of embedded software in the market, it will also add to the Blu-Ray R&D.
