With every iOS update Apple introduces, over 200+ new features. In fact, some go unannounced and are discovered by users. The feature discovered today in Apple’s latest iOS 5 has not been released to the public yet. This is a feature I have been waiting for since I hate using third third party apps to take a panoramic photo.
Today, iOS hacker Conrad Kramer (@conradev), discovered that he has found a way to enable the hidden Panorama mode within Apple’s own camera app, as noted by iDownloadBlog. Currently, the feature seems to be undergoing development by Apple, but its references in the iOS SDK have been found. In the iOS SDK, it was discovered that the feature offers settings for a grid and HDR while creating a panorama photo.
It is unclear why the feature is hidden, but I would expect it to be eventually released to the public at some point. Kramer says that the mode can easily be activated by setting the “EnableFirebreak” key to YES in com.apple.mobileslideshow.plist (a preference file in iOS). In addition, famous hacker Grant Paul, also known as Chpwn, posted screenshots and examples of the panorama mode. For the folks who jailbreak their iPhone, he has already submitted an app to Cydia to enable the panorama mode.
iPhone owners are provided with an awesome camera, a simple to use camera app, and the ability to take HDR photos! To top it off, we will soon be able to take panoramic photos within the Camera app. How cool is that!
