Techie Buzz is a Top 100 InfoTech & Technology Blog in the World on Technorati

Out here, we are certainly not obsessed with rankings. However, from time to time we do like to share our achievements with others. Quite recently we were Top 100 InfoTech and Technology Blog in the world, according to Technorati, who track millions of blogs from across the world. This is a great achievement for us, since Technorati tracks more than 133 millions blogs across the internet, and being in the Top 100 puts us into a very elite position.

Overall, we are ranked 110th 100 in the general technology category, among 133 million blogs from across the world. Which again is great considering the amount of blogs that write about technology.

Once again, we want to thank all our readers for all the support you have given us. And like always, we aim to please. You will notice a lot of changes in how we review software and services, making it much more easier for you to make a decision to try out new and useful software.

Google Tributes Mahatma Gandhi on His Birthday

It was really good to see Google celebrating Mahatma Gandhi’s birthday by adding a doodle on their home page. The doodle replaces the G in Google with a picture of Mahatma Gandhi.

The doodle is to celebrate the birthday of Gandhi, also known as Gandhi Jayanti which is a national holiday in India.

Mahatma Gandhi was (and is still) known for his non-violence and charisma, and played a big role in achieving independence to India.

It is definitely good to see Google paying tribute to a great personality. You can see a doodle that pays tribute to Gandhi by visiting the Indian page of Google Search (

Complete Slicehost, Linode or VPS Setup for LAMP, NAMP and WordPress [Services]

Congrats on making a decision to move from a shared hosting to a VPS (Virtual Private Server). Now that you are there you need to setup things from scratch including setting up your own web server, PHP servers, MySQL servers and more.

If you are a newbie to all these things you might not be able to do that with ease and professional services cost you a bomb.

To save you from paying a ton of money to just get started out and also from taking too long to move from shared hosting to a VPS like Slicehost or Linode, I am offering my services to make the move seamless for a minimal amount.

Basic VPS Setup Package

NAMP Server (Linux, Nginx, MySQL and PHP [FastCGI]) from Scratch

This is a recommended setup if you just wish to use you get the best out of limited resources. I have been using Nginx on this site and it works like a charm serving 10000s of users on a day to day basis without crashing.

LAMP Server (Linux, Apache, MySQL and PHP) from Scratch

In this package I will setup Linux, Apache, MySQL and PHP on your VPS server and optimize all the settings for optimal usage.

WordPress Setup and Migration [Add-on Service]

If you are moving from a shared hosting you will have to setup and do other things like migrate your MySQL database, themes and plugins.

I will help you will all of this and also setup your server with WP Super Cache a excellent plugin to cache your files on any of the Basic VPS setup you choose.

Server Monitoring Scripts to Restart Server When it Goes Down [Add-on Service]

Monitoring and managing a VPS server can be quite a headache, in this add-on service I will setup scripts that will monitor your server resources and automatically restart Apache/Nginx and other monitored services when it stops working.

These scripts are very useful if you want to sleep peaceful nights without having to worry your server going down and when you don’t want to spend more money to upgrade your VPS plans.

FTP Servers and Server Remote Management [Add-on Service]

By default you will not require FTP servers for your VPS and can use SFTP instead, if you require a FTP server to be setup, I can do that and also create users and restrict them to certain directories.

In addition to that I will also help to setup a remote server management tool that you can use to monitor system status, create users, add virtual hosts, start and stop services and more.

Any Additional Requests

In addition to that you can also ask for additional services which will be considered as add-on services.

If you are interested in getting your move to your own VPS server like Slicehost or Linode a piece of cake and want the best setup for a low cost you can contact me at [email protected] to get full pricing details and setup information.

Spring Cleaning in Fall: A New Techie Buzz Theme

Over the past few years we have had the same motto. That hasn’t changed. However, I must state once again that "change is constant" and we will always strive for constant improvement. That’s one reason why we try to make everything easier for our readers.

We do this by making changes to the website over and over again. This time around I decided to dirty my hands and do a redesign of the theme for better navigation and content presentation.

I am not a designer per se, but I do dabble a bit in it whenever it is worthwhile. I spent a few hours doing some thinking and designing to come up with a new theme for the site. It has hints of the original theme, but I have tried to keep the content more readable. You can take a look at it in the screenshot below or browse the newly created theme.

New Techie Buzz Theme

Although there are still things that might need tweaking and changing, I depend on your feedback to further improve the theme. Please feel free to browse it and let me know if you want to see any changes in it.

Your suggestions and feedback is highly appreciated and like always the comment form is open for you.
