Walkman App From Xperia NXT Phones Ported To Other Android Handsets
By on August 29th, 2012

Before the Android and the iPhone took over the world, Sony had a loyal fan following of its own with its Cybershot and Walkman branded phones. While its Cybershot phones had stellar camera(s), the Walkman phones were centered around music and came with a dedicated ‘Walkman’ button. The stock Walkman app was also one gorgeous looking app, which made listening to music on a Walkman phone much more enjoyable.

In the Android world though, the Walkman app has been dumbed to just a beautiful music player though. This, however, did not stop a member of the XDA forums, ThilinaC, from porting the Walkman app of the Xperia NXT handsets to other non-Sony Android handsets. While not feature rich like PowerAMP, the Walkman app from Xperia NXT phones does have a very beautiful UI to its credit that is based on the Holo theme.

The Walkman app works like a charm on my Galaxy Nexus without any issues. The ‘Edit’ music info option has been greyed out though, and won’t work because it requires some files from the Sony framework, which is missing.

The download link can be found here. Keep in mind that you need root access on your Android handset running Ice Cream Sandwich or Jelly Bean along with a custom recovery installed, so as to install the Walkman app on your phone.
