Get Sony Ericsson’s Timescape UI On Any CM7 Running Android Handset
Thanks to the skin-deep custom Timescape/Mediascape UX used by Sony Ericsson in their 2010 flagship phone, the Xperia X10, the company had a tough time in updating the handset to the latest versions of Android.
Thankfully, the company realized its mistake and reduced its custom UX heavily in the 2011 range of Xperia handsets. This made Sony’s work of updating their handset to the latest version of Android much more easier, and the company has been pumping out regular software updates, which add new features ever since. The whole Timescape UI has been reduced to some brilliant 3D widgets in the latest bunch of Xperia handsets.
Now, one developer over at XDA forums, has managed to port the Timescape UI for all Android handsets running CM7. I tried the mod on my CM7ified SGS2 and Galaxy Ace, and it worked like a charm. The installation steps of this mod are pretty simple as well. Simply download and transfer this file to your CM7 running Android handset, and reboot it into recovery. Now, first make sure that you mount the /system partition from under the Mounts & Storage option, and then simply install/flash the zip file you downloaded above.
Once your phone reboots, make sure you use the Xperia launcher. Download the launcher from here and manually install it. If you get an “Installation Unsuccessful” error, copy the apk file to the /system/app folder of your handset.
