The Xperia S is Sony’s best offering in its NXT series of handsets. While the hardware of the phone is nothing to go gaga about, 1.5GHz dual core processor, 1GB of RAM, a 4.3-inch 720p HD display and 32GB of internal memory, it is the camera on the handset that is the true showstopper. The 12MP camera on the Xperia S can take some stunning pictures in ultra-quick time. The handset is also able to record 1080p HD videos with decent quality and resolved detail.
However, trust the folks over XDA forums to make the best even better! Thanks to a mod from XDA senior member, somemadcaaant, Xperia S owners can enjoy even higher quality images and video recording from their handset. By default, the Xperia S captures images with 90% jpeg compression. Thanks to the mod, Xperia S owners can now capture images with 0% jpeg compression, thus leading to less noise in their photos.
The mod also brings a significant improvement in the quality of videos recorded by the handset. The mod bumps up the 1080p video recording bitrate to 20Mbps (stock 14.9Mbps), along with increasing the 720p videos bitrate from a pathetic 6Mbps to 15Mbps.
The mod requires users to have root access on their handset though. The steps to install the mods along with all the required files can be found over at this thread on XDA forums.
