Manually Download and Install The Official Ice Cream Sandwich Update On Acer Iconia A200
By on February 13th, 2012

Earlier today, Acer started rolling out the Android 4.0.3 Ice Cream Sandwich update for the Iconia A200 tablet. The update is being rolled out via OTA, and in stages, so chances are not all A200 owners will get the update immediately.

However, if you want to update your A200 to Ice Cream Sandwich manually, follow the instructions mentioned below -:

The method below works only for the U.S variant of the Acer Iconia A200.

Step 1: Download the Ice Cream Sandwich update file from here. Rename it to ‘’ once the download completes, and then transfer the file to your tablet’s external memory card.

Step 2: Now, switch off your A200, and press the Volume Down button and Power Button simultaneously to boot it into Recovery mode. Once some random lines of text appear in some corner of the screen, let go of the buttons. After a few moments, a green Android logo should appear on the screen with a progress bar.

Step 3: The progress bar will get stuck somewhere at around 50-70%. Let the tablet be in that state for 2-3 minutes. Now, press the Power button on the tablet to switch it off. You might need to keep it pressed to switch off the device.

Step 4: Power it on again, and the tablet will boot into Ice Cream Sandwich. Once the tablet goes past the Configuring your apps screen, it will lock-up. At this point, again switch off your A200 using the Power button.

Step 5: Start your A200 in Recovery mode again. Repeat Step 2 i.e. press Volume Down + Power Button simultaneously. This time users will be greeted with a new Android recovery, with a blue theme. Let the Recovery do its magic, and after sometime you will be greeted with a screen like this -:

Just sit back patiently, and relax. Your A200 will automatically reboot into Ice Cream Sandwich, once the installation completes.

That’s the Leaked iCS. The Version number is different then the OTA that Acer is rolling out. So its not the same official version. I know this because I have this installed and have seen the version numbers from users who have had the official OTA from yesterday.

per Acer, there is no “official” update yet, I was told that those who are updated are not using the “official” build because apparently Acer is still testing.
