Unofficial Build Of VLC For Android Released; Download It Here!
By on February 27th, 2012

VLC is unarguably the most popular video player out there for all platforms out there. The app is not only available for Windows, Mac and Linux, it is also available for iOS.

Since VLC is open source, and Android is also open source, it was just a matter of time before VLC for Android was released. However, quite a lot of time has passed but VLC for Android is still under development. One CM developer did release a ‘kanged’ version of VLC for Android, but never got around to actually updating it.

Now, one user over at XDA forums has released an unofficial build of VLC for Android. The user, adridu59, is not the developer of the app, but has only built it from the source.

The developer has been constantly updating the app, and has released three builds of it, optimized for ARM 11, Cortex-A8/NEON and Cortex-A9 SOCs respectively. The app also supports H/W acceleration, but it is a bit buggy right now.Keep in mind that VLC for Android is still under development; so consider this ‘kanged’ build a pre-alpha version of the app.

The APK file of VLC for Android file can be downloaded from here.
