GalnetMIUI v4 Based On Ice Cream Sandwich For Samsung Galaxy S2 and Galaxy S Released
The Samsung Galaxy S2 was among the first Android phones to get an Alpha build of Ice Cream Sandwich. However, the CM9 build of SGS2 has hit a road block, and the developers are waiting for the kernel sources to be released from Samsung to solve the remaining issues. This has however not stopped the developers over at Galnet MIUI to release an Alpha build of MIUI v4, based on Ice Cream Sandwich, for the Galaxy S2. The ROM will give users a taste of how a stable build of MIUI v4 will look like on the handset (Hint: Absolutely gorgeous!).
The ROM cannot be used on a day-to-day basis though, since the microphone does not work while on calls, thus defeating the primary purpose of a phone. There are other major issues as well like choppy video playback, an unstable RIL and much more. Since MIUIv4 is based on CM9, these issues are more or less to be expected. Once the Galaxy S2 gets a stable build of CM9 with everything working fine, it will be just a matter of time before a stable MIUI v4 ROM for the handset is out.
The Galnet team has also successfully ported MIUIv4 to the Galaxy S. The GalnetMIUI ROM, based on Ice Cream Sandwich, for the Galaxy S is pretty stable, and can be used as a daily driver.
For the unknown, the GalnetMIUI ROM is similar to the MIUI ROM from China with just a few tweaks and features of their own. Interested Galaxy S and S2 owners can download GalnetMIUI for their handset from here.
